On the very onset of development, WS was supposed to become a rival of portable consoles like the Neo-Geo Pocket Color and GB Color. Very soon, the WS console was replaced by WS Color. Owners of ordinary WS could not run the majority of new games on their console and buying one after the other wasn’t such a pleasant perspective considering the price of $65 (which was quite a lot at the time.) For WonderSwan, a sufficiently large number of games were released that could be played on a vertical or horizontal screen. However, since the console was aimed primarily at the Japanese market, only a small number of games had English translation. Still, the 3.5 million of sold products speaks for itself.
